Clinton Foundation Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Access Initiative:

2006 - 2007

During the fall of 2006, CGC partnered with the Clinton Foundation, and undertook a consulting project that helped move forward the Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI.) The CGC Consulting Team's project was to generate a business model for the establishment and roll-out of male circumcision clinics in Africa.

Why circumcision clinics? Several scientific studies have shown that male circumcision is an effective tool for HIV-prevention. Further analysis has shown that that if all men in sub-Saharan Africa were circumcised in the next 10 years, 2 million HIV infections and 300,000 deaths could be prevented. Additional benefits include a lower risk of sexually transmitted diseases and urinary tract infections.

In light of these substantial results, CGC's project was to study the implications, cost structure, and business case for building clinics in Kenya and Swaziland with the eventual goal of decreasing HIV transmission in these countries. CGC ultimately made a proposal to the Clinton Foundation for two mobile circumcision clinics. The team also constructed a complete roll-out plan.
