NYU / Gates Foundation Microfinance Project:

2007 - 2008

Chicago Global Citizens consultants recently undertook the challenge of designing a five year business plan and communication strategy for Financial Access Initiative (FAI). The purpose of the project was to clarify and organize what is currently known about the demand for microfinance, generate new knowledge and evidence about the need for microfinance, and describe policy options for central banks and regulators based on its findings.

The team's final proposal included both a short term and long term strategy for FHI. The recommendations were well received by FAI in a presentation to the organization that took place in December of 2007. (Though CGC’s findings and recommendations are confidential, please feel free to contact the CGC Co-Chairs with further questions on this project.)

About the Financial Access Initiative
The Financial Access Initiative is a consortium of leading development economists focused on expanding access to quality financial services for low-income individuals. FAI’s goals are to provide research on the impacts of financial access and to develop innovative ways to improve access in order to help these low-income individuals manage their economic lives and build wealth. Founded in 2006, it was launched with an initial grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and is housed at the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University.
